SHARING YOUR STORY

One of the deepest connections we have with one another are the stories shared and passed down through the years – from person to person, family to family. It is a familiar way of telling one’s own history – the personal kind that doesn’t make the headlines or evening news. No matter who you are, you have a story that is unique to you. Whether you have scaled mountains, the corporate ladder, musical notes, or… fish… the story of how and when and where is yours to tell. It is unfortunate that some do not have the encouragement or opportunity to share the gift that is innately their own to give.
Providing the means to do this is what the Writers Foundation of Strathcona County (WFSC) is all about – our Your Lifetime of Stories program instructors work with participants to put to page stories of your life. To some, this process is often seen as a daunting task, hampered by feelings of self-doubt and questions of significance. Who will read my story? Who am I? We like to alleviate these concerns by assuring those we work with that it’s not always about finding a market as much as finding your own voice to share your experiences and tell how is was for you. We don’t want to lose this vital and valuable part of our history.
