Day 1 | April Poetry Month Challenge | Optimism's Peak

WFSC Past Creative Writing Facilitators and long time members, Mike Deregowski and Kelsey Hoople, challenge you to participate in our 7th Annual #nationalpoetrymonth.


1 poem per day for 30 days. 😉


Feel free to work backwards if you miss some prompts. Post your creation in the comments here (must be a site member) or on our Facebook page <HERE> to have the chance to enter the Poetry Book Submission at the end of this challenge.


To be included in the anthology, you must be a member in good standing with the Writers Foundation of Strathcona County ($20/year) and post at least 1 poem to our website or Facebook page based on the #poetrymonth #writingprompts before the end of April. There will be a $30 submission fee to put toward the cost of publishing from our sponsor Dream Write Publishing for the book but you do get an author copy.


Overall theme 'What Goes Up / Must Come Down'.

April 1st Poetry Challenge

"Picture a line graph gradually rising to a peak like a mountain high and falling off gently as if descending into a lower valley... that is the image I envisioned while composing this poem..."

Optimism's Peak

My thoughts continue to grow

Hoping to achieve that which I want to know

Places I hope to go

Seeds I need to sow...

Is it acceptable to reach high yet stoop low?

We all dream of things beyond our reach

Continue along learning as we also teach

Pass onto others what we can to each.

While respecting boundaries of social norms

While downloading, printing, and filling in all forms

Within guidelines set for our outcomes to conform.
